And who did we bump into at the airport?!

At the airport England cricket star, Andrew "Freddie" Flintoff was lucky enough to bump into SHS's celebrated "Green" sisters, Sophie and Emily.

Did our two give him their autographs, I wonder?!

...and that's the end for now!!

Enjoy the rest of the holidays!

The Last Match Report!

Netball ‘A’ Squad

Match 5: SHS v Vauxhall - Score: Vauxhall: 17 SHS: 21

Today’s match was our closest yet, again played in a local community with all the families out to support their team. Due to a great squad performance we finished on a high, which was nice as it was the Y13’s last ever SHS match. With a score of 21-17 the defence made some great turnovers, which is why our man of the match was Harry!

More Match Reports

Netball ‘A’ Squad

Match 3 v Not Blazers - Score: Not Blazers: 32 SHS: 16

After a change of schedule, today’s match was against the Under-16 Bajan national squad, Not Blazers. This was the toughest match so far, with the national side’s elevation and skills surpassing ours. However, we put up a good fight, especially our defence with Hannah Davies our man of the match.

Match 4 v Silverhill - Score: Silverhill: 12 SHS: 30

Today’s match was against a club team, in a local community. We dominated the match as their game was a similar style to that of our own. Special mention goes to Ashni, who played up into the 1st team today and who held her own in centre court. Also to Sara, our man of the match who made some fantastic interceptions!

Netball ‘B’ Squad

Match 4 v Silverhill - Score: Silverhill: 26 SHS: 4

The attack fought through today, working well with the defence in order to defeat the opposition. The match was well supported by the locals as it was held within the community, which made us feel very welcome. We enjoyed both the stamina and the rapid pace of the game, making it a fun experience for us all!

Match 5 v Vauxhall - Score: Vauxhall: 6 SHS: 14

This match was the last match for many team members, so everyone in the squad gave it their all. Strife to succeed was displayed across all of the players’ faces, with the determination paying off with yet another win! Levels of interceptions were high and the shooting skills accurate, allowing us to dodge our way to victory!

Hockey

Match 3 – Score: Opposition: 5 SHS: 1

Match 3 brought tough opposition, which produced some good hockey, but a disappointing result! Cassie scored a corker to bring us level near the start, but even with some great saves from our ‘man-of-the-match’ goalkeeper Thea, and despite our best efforts, we ended up losing 5-1.

Match 4 – Score: Opposition: 4 SHS: 0

The penultimate match saw us play the same international players we have come across before and unfortunately the result was much the same with a 4-0 loss. Today was not the best we’ve ever played, but it did see a star appearance from Mrs Davidson herself. ‘Man-of-the-match’ status went to our fabulous captain Becky, who kept up team spirits and who played some cracking hockey!

Match 5 – Score: Opposition: 0 SHS: 1

With our final match in Barbados also being many of the players’ last match ever for the school, the team was literally popping with enthusiasm and a massive desire to win! We tried a different formation with 4 players up front and it obviously worked, because our goalie, Thea, didn’t touch the ball once! We had quite a few shots on goal, only managing to score once. One goal was enough to win us the match though, and the goal, scored by Ibbo, was simply fantastic! ‘Man-of-the-match’ went to Issy who, everyone will agree, played exceedingly well, managing to dodge past all their defenders! WELL DONE EVERYONE! What a great tour!

Match Reports

Netball ‘A’ Squad

Match 1: Carlton Club v SHS – Score: Carlton 24 SHS 17

This being our first match, it made us slightly nervous as to what to expect from Bajan netball. Although it was in the evening, it was still very hot and humid which we were absolutely not used to playing in. The team quickly adapted well to the conditions, with everyone putting in a great performance. Our opponents were an adult team from division one and quite possibly the most physical team we have played, with an especially strong defence. Our attack did well to keep the score line tiding over and for this reason Meg was our man of the match.

Match 2: Barnabus v SHS - Score: Barnabus 9 SHS 23

This match was held at the National Netball Stadium. Once again, this game was very physical and we soon realised that this physicality was the Bajan style of play. The overall team performance was outstanding, especially as the sun was shining strongly making the game very warm indeed. However, through teamwork and commitment to achieve, the squad were triumphant in their result. At the end of the match as we did three cheers for AMY, we looked around in confusion, was she their man of the match? It turned out Amy had been asked her name and they thought that Sheffield High was now AMY HIGH!

Netball ‘B’ Squad

Match 1: Carlton Club v SHS - Score: Carlton 28 SHS 8

Having had our match delayed for an hour and, after arriving at the courts, waiting a further 40 minutes, we soon realised that the lifestyle of the Bajan’s was very relaxed. However the laid-back atmosphere of the Bajan’s soon changed on court. It was a tough but enjoyable match and all of the squad should be proud of their performance.

Match 2: Pine Hill v SHS - Score: Pine Hill 5 SHS 17

Match 2 allowed us to SHINE, literally in the sun. This match enabled us to show our skills and to work as a team. We proved this with our victorious result of 17 – 5.

Match 3: Zion Hill v SHS – Score: Zion Hill 13 SHS 15

The third match began with an early start, with all of the squad highly energised and enthusiastic for another win. The opposition was at a similar standard to our own, therefore making the match hard fought. We were successful in our performance, well done to everyone!

Hockey

Great first match against Combermere, winning 5-0! With the help of the back of her stick, Cassie scored a hat trick, securing herself ‘man of the match’. Other goals from Abby and Ibbo proved we could still perform in the scorching heat!

Our second match proved a much bigger challenge with the opposition having 3 national players on their team! After going a goal behind, Ibbo scored a cracking goal to get us back in contention. A great team performance then followed with some ‘man of the match’ earning tackles from Gina but in the end we narrowly lost 2-1.
